How to implement the Enhanced E-commerce feature in Google Analytics.

Remember in part 1 where we were discussing the new “Enhanced E-commerce” feature in Google Analytics? Good! In this post we’ll be going through how to set up Google Analytics to enable this feature.

First things first, we need to make sure that:

  • Your website is tracked with Universal Analytics
  • If you have Google Analytics already implemented then you need to switch over to Universal Analytics (you’ll need to do it one day or another, so may as well do it now)

Let’s start with the second scene – If you have Classic analytics implemented and want to switch to Universal.

Now this is a nice quick and simple procedure:

  1. Log into your Google Analytics account
  2. Access the Admin panel
  3. Select an account and a property
  4. Click onto Universal Analytics Upgrade
  5. Follow instructions from then on

*Please remember that only users with the edit permission can transfer a property, and a 24/48 hour period may be required for completion*

Okay now for the juicy bit, we now have two scenarios where Universal Analytics is implemented, so let’s get started with the “Enhanced E-commerce” feature.

  1. Log into your Google Analytics account
  2. Access the Admin panel
  3. Select an account and a property
  4. In the ‘View’ section, select ‘E-commerce Settings’
  5. Enable ‘Enhanced E-commerce’

That’s it! Easy right?

Enjoy the fun you’re going to have with this enhanced feature. Looking at transactions just got easier so we’ll look into these again at a later date. Have you tried creating dashboards to help with reporting? We’ve created some so why not take a look here. Have fun!
